Connected to Stratux Wi-Fi but 192.168.10.1 won't load
If your device says it's on the Stratux Wi-Fi but 192.168.10.1 won't load, the cause is usually the device, not the receiver. Type http://192.168.10.1 into the address bar, not a search box. Then rule out cellular with airplane mode and check the address your device received. A second device tells you quickly which side is at fault.
This is one of the most common emails in our old support inbox: about 20 threads from 2017 to 2019 described it. Most ended with the page loading after one of the steps below.
Check it in this order
- Is Stratux fully booted? Give it two or three minutes after power-on. The lights should match a running unit. See Power and status lights.
- Are you on the right network? In the device's Wi-Fi settings, join the network named Stratux, unless you renamed it. A fresh image has no password.
- Type the full address. Enter
http://192.168.10.1in the browser's address bar. Leave outwww. If a search results page opens, the browser treated it as a search term. - Rule out cellular. Turn on airplane mode, then turn Wi-Fi back on and rejoin Stratux. Try the address again. If it loads now, the device was sending the request over mobile data.
- Try a second browser or device. If a phone loads the page but the tablet doesn't, the receiver is fine and the problem is in that tablet's settings.
- Reboot Stratux once if no device can load the page. If it still fails after a reboot, see Stratux won't boot. Usually a fresh image on the card fixes it.
Check the address your device received
Stratux hands out addresses from 192.168.10.10 to 192.168.10.50 (stratux-dnsmasq.conf.template in the Stratux source). In your device's Wi-Fi details, tap the Stratux network and look at the IP address.
| You see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 192.168.10.10 – .50 | The device joined Stratux properly. | The page should load. Check the address you typed, then try another browser. |
| 169.254.x.x, or no address | The device joined but got no address from Stratux. | Forget the network, rejoin it, then reboot Stratux. |
| Any other address | The device is on a different network. | Join Stratux again. Turn off auto-join for nearby networks. |
Why phones and tablets wander off the Stratux network
In the default AccessPoint mode, the Stratux network has no internet. Stratux deliberately gives devices no gateway or DNS server unless you turn on AP+Client with Internet Passthrough (same source file). Your device can then keep cellular data for internet and still reach 192.168.10.1 over Wi-Fi.
Some devices notice the missing internet and react to it:
- They switch to a known network with internet, such as home Wi-Fi in the hangar.
- They show a "no internet" prompt, and drop Stratux if you don't tap to stay connected.
- They pause Wi-Fi apps to save battery. On Android, exclude your EFB from battery optimization. See Choosing and setting up a tablet.
If you've turned on Internet Passthrough, iPhones and iPads can lose cellular data instead. See Internet on your tablet while connected to Stratux.
The page loads but your app still shows nothing
A working status page proves the receiver and Wi-Fi are fine. The problem is then in the app: its device or GPS source settings, or a filter. See Traffic shows on Stratux but not in your app and ForeFlight® with Stratux.
Next step: join the Stratux network, turn on airplane mode, turn Wi-Fi back on, and type http://192.168.10.1 in the address bar.
