Free ADS-B weather and traffic for your EFB
Stratux is free, open-source software that turns a Raspberry Pi into a dual-band ADS-B receiver. It sends FIS-B weather, traffic and GPS to the EFB apps pilots already use, over Wi-Fi.
Dual-band reception: FIS-B weather and traffic on UAT, plus traffic from 1090ES aircraft worldwide.
Standard GDL90 output for ForeFlight®-compatible setups, Garmin Pilot, FltPlan Go, Avare, iFly and many more.
WAAS GPS position, plus an optional AHRS board for a backup attitude display.
Every part can be repaired or replaced, and the software is free and open source.
What is Stratux?
Stratux is software that runs on a small Raspberry Pi computer with two radios: one for 978 MHz UAT and one for 1090 MHz. Together they receive the free ADS-B broadcasts that fill your EFB with weather and traffic: NEXRAD radar, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs and SIGMETs, PIREPs, winds aloft, TFRs, and nearby aircraft. A GPS gives your EFB a position, and an optional AHRS board adds a backup attitude display.
The receiver creates its own Wi-Fi network. Connect your tablet, open your EFB app, and the data appears. Nothing to subscribe to, and no account to create.
You can build your own from a parts list in an afternoon, or buy a ready-to-fly unit that's assembled and tested. Either way it runs the same open-source software, and you can update it for free whenever a new release comes out.
