Choosing and setting up a tablet
Any phone or tablet with Wi-Fi and a compatible EFB app works with Stratux. Stratux makes its own Wi-Fi network, so you don't need cellular service or an internet connection in the cockpit.
iPad and iPhone
- Wi-Fi-only iPads are fine. They have no GPS of their own, but Stratux supplies the GPS position over Wi-Fi.
- An iPad mini is the most common cockpit choice because it fits most yokes and kneeboards; any current iPad works.
- Look for a screen bright enough to read in sunlight and enough battery for your longest flight.
Android tablets
Android tablets work with Avare, FltPlan Go, iFly, SkyDemon and other Android EFBs. Garmin Pilot for Android does not support Stratux (Garmin Pilot on iPad and iPhone does). See the app list.
Power saving stops the data
Android power-saving modes can shut down background network connections, including the Stratux data stream. The app looks connected but traffic and weather stop updating.
- Simplest fix: turn power saving off while flying.
- If you want to keep it on: look in the battery settings for an option that allows background network or data use during power saving, and turn it on. On many Samsung tablets this is under Settings → Battery (or Device care → Battery), and the menu names vary by model and Android version.
- Some apps, such as Avare, use a separate helper app to talk to Stratux. Exclude that app from battery optimization too.
Still not connected?
- Make sure the tablet is joined to the stratux Wi-Fi network, not a hotspot or another network.
- Open 192.168.10.1 in the tablet's browser. If the Stratux status page loads, the receiver is fine and the problem is in the app's settings. See the web interface.
