Stratux FAQ
Setup
How do I set it up? Attach the antennas, power it on, join the stratux Wi-Fi network, and open your EFB app. See Getting started.
Which apps work? Most major EFBs, including apps compatible with ForeFlight®, Garmin Pilot (iPad and iPhone only), FltPlan Go, Avare and iFly. See the app list.
Do I need a subscription? Not for the traffic and weather themselves; they're free broadcasts. Your EFB app may have its own subscription.
Does it need internet? No. Stratux makes its own Wi-Fi network and needs no internet or cellular connection.
Common problems
No weather on the ground. That's normal; weather fills in after takeoff. See No weather or traffic.
Red light only, no green. Usually a corrupt microSD card. See Stratux won't boot.
GPS says "Not communicating." The GPS module has probably been knocked loose. See GPS troubleshooting.
A target follows me everywhere. It's your own aircraft. See Ghost traffic.
My antenna port is loose. See Stratux antennas.
Power
How long does a battery last? It depends on the pack. Stratux needs a source that delivers at least 2 A. See Power and status lights.
Can I run it from aircraft power? Yes, through a USB adapter rated for 2 A or more. Unplug Stratux during engine start; voltage spikes can damage it.
Building and buying
Can I build my own? Yes. A typical dual-band build costs about $210–230 in parts. See Build.
Where do I buy one ready-made? See Get Stratux.
Outside the US
Does UAT weather work in Canada? Yes, where the volunteer CIFIB network has stations. See Stratux in Canada and outside the US.
