Stratux GPS troubleshooting

No GPS fix

  • First power-up or after a reflash: the GPS needs a clear view of the sky for 10–20 minutes to get its first fix. Take it outside and wait. This "cold start" only happens once.
  • Sky view: mount Stratux with the logo side up where it can see the sky. A metal roof or heated windshield can block GPS. An external GPS solves that.

"Serial Port (Not communicating)" or "GPS solution disconnected"

This usually means the GPS module has been knocked loose inside the case.

  1. Power off and unplug Stratux.
  2. Remove the case screws and open it.
  3. Reseat the GPS in its USB port. Some builders add a small dab of hot glue to keep it in place.
  4. Close the case and power it up outside for a fresh fix.

"My GPS stopped working after I updated"

There are two common causes, so check both:

  1. It's a cold start. A fresh image starts the GPS from scratch. Go outside and give it 10–20 minutes.
  2. It's actually weather or traffic. Pilots sometimes say "GPS" when they mean the EFB shows no weather. On the ground that's normal. See No weather or traffic.

Check it on the status page

Connect to the Stratux Wi-Fi and open 192.168.10.1 → GPS/AHRS. You'll see the fix type, number of satellites and position. See The Stratux web interface.
