AHRS on Stratux
The optional AHRS (attitude and heading reference system) board gives your EFB a backup attitude display: pitch, bank and a synthetic-vision view in apps that support it. It's an inexpensive upgrade, and a valuable backup if your primary instruments fail.
AHRS is a backup, not a primary instrument. Stratux AHRS isn't certified for IFR, and no portable AHRS from any manufacturer is TSO'd. Use it for situational awareness and as a backup, never as your primary attitude reference.
Check that it's working
Connect to the Stratux Wi-Fi, open 192.168.10.1 and go to GPS/AHRS. You should see the attitude indicator respond as you tilt the unit. If the AHRS section is missing:
- Make sure the AHRS board is fitted correctly on the Pi's pins.
- Check the fan is wired with red to +.
Set the orientation
Stratux needs to know which way it's mounted in the cockpit.
- Mount Stratux where it will sit in flight.
- In the web interface, go to Settings → Set AHRS orientation.
- Follow the prompts: point the nose direction when asked, then choose Set Forward Direction.
Redo this whenever you change how the unit is mounted.
Calibrate the gyros
With the aircraft and unit level and still, run the gyro calibration in Settings. Do it on the ground before flight, not while taxiing.
Using AHRS in your EFB
- Apps that support AHRS show a backup attitude indicator or synthetic vision. See the compatibility table.
- In ForeFlight®-compatible setups, synthetic vision needs the AHRS board.
Don't have an AHRS board? See the AHRS upgrade guide and parts.
