HOLDING PATTERN
A daily aviation connections game: find four groups of four related words.
How to play
- Sixteen words sit on the board. Tap four that share a connection, then press Submit.
- A correct group is revealed in its own color and shape. A wrong guess burns one of your four airplanes, and if you run out you land short.
- When three of your four words belong together the game says ONE AWAY, so you know you are close.
- Groups run from straightforward to tricky, and many words fit more than one group. Only one complete solution exists, so think before you commit. Shuffle rearranges the tiles to shake loose new ideas.
Why pilots like it
The categories come straight from aviation: the phonetic alphabet, cockpit controls, V-speeds, tail parts, airport signs and more. Spotting that a word belongs to two different categories is exactly the kind of lateral thinking pilots use when a checklist item does not look the way it should.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from other connections games?
The word groups are all aviation themed, so the puzzle rewards cockpit and airport knowledge as much as vocabulary.
How many mistakes do I get?
Four. Each wrong guess costs one airplane, and when they are all gone the answers are revealed.
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes, a fresh board unlocks at local midnight, and past puzzles stay available in the archive.
Do I need an account?
No. It is free and your stats stay on your device.
