AIRSPACE BUILDER

A free airspace classes game: build the layer cake, then prove you know what is legal where.

How to play

Build mode gives you a side-view chart and a tray of Class A, B, C, D, E and G blocks. Drag each block to the right altitude and distance, snap it, then check. Seven levels run from a generic chart to a typical Class C, the Class B upside-down wedding cake, and mixed scenarios.

Can I fly here? is the quick-fire VFR weather minimums quiz. Each scenario card lists the airspace, altitude, weather, equipment and radio status. Answer LEGAL or NOT LEGAL, then name the reason. Build a streak to multiply your score, and lose a heart for every wrong verdict. A new daily challenge (15 cards plus one build puzzle) is the same for everyone.

Why pilots like it

You learn airspace by doing. Class B needs 3 SM and clear of clouds. Class C, D and E below 10,000 MSL use the 3-152 rule: 3 SM, 500 below, 1,000 above, 2,000 horizontal. At 10,000 MSL and up, Class E needs 5 SM and 1,000/1,000/1 SM. ADS-B Out and a Mode C transponder are required in more places than many pilots remember, such as the 30 NM Mode C veil. Cards are simplified in places, so confirm against current rules and charts.

FAQ

What are the VFR weather minimums by airspace class?

Class B: 3 SM, clear of clouds. Class C, D and E below 10,000 MSL: 3 SM, 500 ft below, 1,000 above, 2,000 horizontal. Class E at or above 10,000 MSL: 5 SM, 1,000/1,000/1 SM. Class G at 1,200 AGL or less: 1 SM clear of clouds by day.

Where is ADS-B Out required?

Under 14 CFR 91.225: Class A, B and C; within 30 NM of a Class B primary airport up to 10,000 MSL; above B and C up to 10,000 MSL inside their lateral limits; Class E at or above 10,000 MSL above 2,500 AGL; and the Gulf of Mexico within 12 NM of the coast at or above 3,000 MSL.

Does a Stratux meet the ADS-B Out requirement?

No. A Stratux is an ADS-B In receiver that shows traffic and weather; it does not transmit. ADS-B Out needs approved equipment like a 1090ES transponder or UAT. See what Stratux does.

Is this a substitute for the regulations?

No. It is a study aid. Always check current Part 91, the AIM and your charts.
