Gate Expectations
A life sim set in an airport terminal. Your flight is delayed. Your needs are not.
How to play
- Click an object to open its pie menu and pick a verb. Up to eight actions can wait in the queue, or turn on free will and let your Fliers choose.
- Watch the eight need bars, above all Patience. Let one hit zero and something embarrassing happens on the moving walkway.
- Press B to build. Spend Skybucks on sofas, nap pods, an aquarium and a grand piano, then repaint the floors and walls.
- Be at the gate when your boarding group is called, or the plane leaves without you. Chaos events turn up on their own: gate changes, a volunteer auction, a lost bag, a ground stop.
- Give a Flier a career (gate agent, pilot, flight attendant, TSA officer, barista or frequent flyer) and earn rank rewards, from the Stapler of Authority to the Singing Bin.
Keys: P pauses, B builds, J opens the jukebox, M mutes and Esc opens the arcade menu.
Why pilots like it
Everything in the terminal is lifted from real airports: boarding groups, gate changes and the departure board that always says ON TIME until it does not. A ground stop is a real traffic-management tool that holds aircraft at their departure airport when weather or congestion makes the destination unsafe. In the game, the apron outside the windows goes dark, the rain starts and the concourse learns to love a stranger’s charger.
Frequently asked questions
Is Gate Expectations free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no install and no ads. Your progress saves in your browser, in three save slots plus an autosave.
Does Gate Expectations work on a phone?
Yes. Tap an object for its pie menu, long-press a Flier for their menu, drag to pan and pinch to zoom.
What happens if I miss my flight?
The plane leaves without you. You get a story card, a fee and a place in the Hall of Shame, then a 6 a.m. rebooking through a city that may not exist.
What is the daily challenge?
Every day brings one Travel Day from Hell: the same Fliers, flights and chaos for everyone. Your score is the Party’s happiness times the flights you made, and the best go on the board.
