BARNSTORMER REALMS ELITEDAILY

Barnstormer Realms Elite

A free flying-circus strategy game in the spirit of the old BBS door games.

How to play

You run a barnstorming show in the years after the Great War. Each turn is one week of the touring season. Set your gate fee, hire pilots and wing-walkers, build hangars and grandstands, buy fields across the counties, and add aircraft as they appear: Curtiss Jennys, Standard J-1s, the Ford Trimotor and more. Eight AI rival circuses do the same, and they are not polite about it.

You can steal a rival's crowd, buzz their show to cost them fame, spread rumors, poach a pilot or sabotage their fabric dope. Your score is net worth divided by 100: land, fleet, cash and ten times your fame. The campaign gives you 20 turns a day from 1919 to 1935. The Daily Circuit is a fresh 20-turn run with the same rivals and events for every player.

Why pilots like it

Barnstorming is where a lot of American general aviation began. Surplus JN-4 Jennys cost a few hundred dollars after 1918, and thousands of ex-military pilots turned them into ride-for-a-dollar businesses. The Air Commerce Act of 1926 brought pilot and aircraft licensing, which is the ancestor of today's FAA system. Many of the era's rules about airworthiness and who may carry passengers began as a reaction to this freewheeling period.

If you fly today, you already carry a modern tool the barnstormers never had. A Stratux ADS-B receiver puts live traffic and weather on your tablet. Curious how it works? Read how ADS-B works. Some of the numbers and dates in the game are flavor, not history.
